How do I pull code violations records step by step?
These code enforcement cases are managed by the Columbus Department of Building & Zoning Services and published from 2019 to the present on the city's official maps and open data portal.
Go to the Columbus GIS Open Data site
Navigate to opendata.columbus.gov. This is the City of Columbus's official maps and open data portal — free to browse, no login.
Open the Code Enforcement Cases dataset
Search for Code Enforcement Cases and open the dataset with that name. It holds code enforcement cases managed by the Columbus Department of Building & Zoning Services from 2019 to present — about 300,000 records, refreshed nightly.
Open the data table
Click View data table on the dataset page. Each row is one case, with columns like B1_PER_TYPE (case type, e.g. Environmental Health or Zoning Code Inspection), B1_PER_CATEGORY (e.g. Weeds), the site address, and the parcel number.
Filter to active cases
Open the Filter panel (funnel icon) and filter B1_APPL_STATUS — the case status column — to the open/active statuses so you are not chasing cases that were already resolved.
Sort by newest cases first
Sort the B1_FILE_DD column (the date the case was filed) descending so the freshest enforcement cases are at the top.
Download the list
Click Download and choose CSV to save your filtered list as a spreadsheet.
Record the data
For each lead, capture the case number (B1_ALT_ID), case type (B1_PER_TYPE), status (B1_APPL_STATUS), site address, parcel number (B1_PARCEL_NBR), and the file date (B1_FILE_DD). Use the parcel number in the Franklin County Auditor's property search to pull the owner's name and mailing address.
