How do I find tax delinquent properties in Washington, DC?
Washington, DC's free open data portal, opendata.dc.gov, publishes the Integrated Tax System Public Extract of vacant and blighted properties. Filter the total balance column to greater than 0 to keep only tax-delinquent owners, then download the list as a CSV.
How do I pull tax delinquent records step by step?
The District of Columbia's official open data portal publishes a tax-assessment-roll extract limited to properties DC has classified as vacant or blighted, and filtering it to owners with a balance due turns it into a tax-delinquent lead list.
Go to Open Data DC
Navigate to opendata.dc.gov. This is the District of Columbia's official open data portal, run by the city government.
Find the vacant and blighted tax dataset
Use the search bar and type Integrated Tax System Public Extract Vacant and Blighted, then open the dataset with that exact name. It is the city's tax-assessment-roll extract limited to properties DC has classified as vacant or blighted — about 2,500 records, updated daily.
Open the data table
On the dataset page, click View Table (or the View data table link under Records). A spreadsheet-style view opens showing every vacant/blighted property with its tax details.
Filter to owners who owe back taxes
Click the filter icon on the left edge of the table and set the total balance column (the amount owed, TOTBALAMT) to greater than 0. This keeps only vacant or blighted properties whose owner still owes money to the city — the tax-delinquent leads.
Sort newest first
Click the extract date column header and sort descending so the most recently updated records appear at the top of the list.
Download the list
Go back to the dataset page and click Download, then choose CSV. The file opens in Excel or Google Sheets so you can work the list.
Record the data
For each lead, capture the SSL (Square-Suffix-Lot, which is DC's parcel ID and case reference), the premise address, the owner name, the delinquency code (status), the total balance due, and the extract date.
